Landing a post in Morocco: HCP figures and methods

In Morocco, unemployment fell to 13% in 2025 according to the HCP, compared with 13.3% in 2024, with 193,000 net jobs created; it nevertheless reaches 37.2% among 15 to 24-year-olds and 19.1% among graduates.

Unemployment that is mainly urban

The High Commission for Planning draws a clear distinction between areas: 16.4% unemployment in towns compared with 6.6% in the countryside in 2025. The country had 1,621,000 unemployed people in total, so unemployment hits urban areas first.

Young people, graduates and women more exposed

In 2025, unemployment affects 37.2% of 15 to 24-year-olds, 19.1% of graduates and 20.5% of women. A degree is therefore not enough: internships, language skills and practical experience often make the difference with recruiters.

Very low female participation

The national activity rate stands at 43.5%, with 68.5% among men and only 19% among women. Underemployment also affects 1,190,000 people, a rate of 10.9% according to the HCP.

Services, the engine of job creation

Of the 193,000 net posts created between 2024 and 2025, services account for 123,000. This broad category notably includes retail, finance and tourism. Finance occupations are detailed on the banking and finance in Africa page.

Construction and industry on the rise

Building and public works gained 64,000 jobs and industry 46,000. ONDA is recruiting for 47 skilled posts for its Airports 2030 programme. The technical profiles sought across the continent are presented on our construction page.

Decline in agricultural employment

Agriculture, forestry and fishing lost 41,000 jobs in a year, and rural employment fell by 10,000 posts while urban employment grew by 203,000. This shift intensifies competition for vacancies in towns.

SMIG: increases announced, amount to be checked

The official portal maroc.ma announced an immediate 5% rise in the SMIG minimum wage in industry, commerce and the liberal professions, and a 10% rise in the agricultural SMAG. The current amount and its effective date have not been verified.
