Job vacancies in Africa: where to look depending on your country and profile

Three families of platforms to tell apart

National job boards publish vacancies at all levels in a single country. Pan-African sites for managers and executive search firms target senior leadership. Humanitarian and institutional portals carry vacancies from NGOs, UN agencies and development banks.

How we checked each site

On 9 October 2026, each address was opened or searched for: title, number of vacancies, date of the latest advert, countries covered. Four attempts failed for technical reasons; these sites are flagged as active in search results, with no verified count.

West Africa: Jobberman, Emploi Dakar, Emploi.ci

Jobberman showed 4,212 vacancies in Nigeria, including 148 remote ones. Emploi Dakar was still posting on 8 October 2026 for Dakar, Ziguinchor and Diamniadio, and Emploi.ci offers an Ivorian CV database. Country details on the Nigeria profile.

North Africa: Tanitjobs, ReKrute, Emploitic, Wuzzuf

Tanitjobs presents itself as Tunisia's employment portal, with adverts dated the same day. ReKrute targets managers in Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria, Emploitic focuses on Algeria and Wuzzuf mainly on Egypt. See also our advice for Tunisia.

East Africa: BrighterMonday, Job in Rwanda, Afriwork

BrighterMonday Uganda had 568 vacancies in total. Job in Rwanda mixes jobs, tenders and consultancies, with 189 featured adverts. In Ethiopia, Afriwork operates through a Telegram channel and claims more than 300,000 candidates, a figure that has not been audited.

Southern Africa and the Indian Ocean

Go Zambia Jobs, active since 2011, was posting vacancies in Lusaka, Kitwe and Solwezi. Vacancy Mail covers Zimbabwe and the diaspora, Emprego.co.mz Mozambique. In Mauritius, MyJob is reached without the www prefix, as our Mauritius profile points out.

Managers and expatriates: JobnetAfrica and AfricaWork

JobnetAfrica advertises senior positions and carries out executive search; eight vacancies were visible, undated. AfricaWork presents itself as a recruitment and executive search firm, with pages for Cameroon and Burkina Faso. The volume of its vacancies has not been verified.

NGOs: ReliefWeb and NGO Jobs in Africa

ReliefWeb lets you filter by country, experience and category. NGO Jobs in Africa is devoted to non-governmental organisations in around forty countries, with vacancies dated the previous day. The roles are described in our humanitarian careers guide.

Institutions: AfDB, World Bank, United Nations

The African Development Bank listed two open positions in Abidjan, including its 2027 internship programme, closing on 12 October 2026. The World Bank and the United Nations have their own portals. See careers in international organisations.

Devex and Impactpool for development work

Devex filters international development vacancies by African region, and Impactpool aggregates United Nations, NGO and European Union positions, with country pages. These aggregators redirect you to each organisation's official application procedure.

Sites whose activity remains uncertain

BrighterMonday Tanzania did not appear in any results; PortalJob Madagascar returned only its metadata; AfriCareers showed a last closing date of 16 September 2026. These platforms may still work, but check the date of the adverts before applying.

Spotting a suspicious advert on a job board

A reputable platform does not guarantee every advert it publishes. Compare the vacancy with the employer's careers page, refuse any request for payment and be wary of contacts who immediately switch to a personal messaging app.

• Jobberman Nigeria: Nigerian general board: 4,212 vacancies on 9 October 2026, of which 148 were remote.
• Tanitjobs: Tunisian employment portal: 3,309 vacancies and adverts posted on 9 October 2026.
• MyJob Mauritius: Mauritian platform reached without www, 1,515 vacancies listed on 9 October 2026.
• Go Zambia Jobs: Zambian site active since 2011, vacancies in Lusaka, Kitwe and Solwezi, plus tenders.
• Job in Rwanda: Jobs, tenders and consultancies in Rwanda, latest posting on 8 October 2026.
• Emploi Dakar: Senegalese general job site, vacancies in Dakar, Ziguinchor and Diamniadio posted in October 2026.
• ReKrute Emploi Cadres: Management vacancies for Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria and other African countries.
• JobnetAfrica: Senior positions for local and expatriate talent, and executive search activity in Africa.
• AfricaWork: Recruitment and executive search firm present notably in Cameroon and Burkina Faso.
• NGO Jobs in Africa: NGO-only vacancies, 408 positions on 9 October 2026: full-time, contracts and consultancies.
• ReliefWeb Jobs: Humanitarian and development vacancies, 824 results on 9 October 2026, with country filters.
• Banque africaine de développement: Vacancies, internships, consultants and the Young Professionals Program, headquartered in Abidjan.

Making good use of African job boards

1. Choose one active national site in the target country and one portal specialising in your sector.
2. Complete your online profile and CV in full, in the country's working language.
3. Create alerts by city, profession and experience level so you are among the first applicants.
4. Check the publication and closing dates before writing an application.
5. Cross-check each advert against the employer's official careers page.
6. Keep a spreadsheet tracking your applications, follow-ups and replies.

What to prepare before applying online

• CV in PDF format, named with your first name and surname
• English version of your CV for English-speaking and institutional sites
• Cover letter that can be tailored to each vacancy
• Scanned degrees and certificates, legible and in small files
• List of referees with their professional contact details
• Online professional profile consistent with your CV

Frequent missteps on job platforms

• Paying registration, processing or visa fees to a so-called recruiter met on a job board: no legitimate hiring process requires it.
• Applying to an undated or already expired advert, which is common on rarely updated sites, and wasting valuable time.
• Sending a copy of your passport or your bank details before verifying the employer's identity.
• Using a single site for the whole continent, when each country has its own leading platforms.
• Confusing an executive search firm, which headhunts profiles, with a site where anyone can apply.
